Planimeter Example In this example we will digitize a contour map and calculate the map volumes. First digitize the four corners of the map. This helps scale the map on the screen and if we mark these corners on the map we can edit the map by realigning the map on the tablet. Then input the map scale as 1000 ft/in.
Digitize the first contour. Click the contour button, input the contour thickness as 0 feet and digitize the 0 contour.
Digitize all the contours which for this map are the 10', 20', and 30' contours.
Click Results. Program computes contour areas and map volumes by 8 different methods. The area of the zero contour was 513.2 acres, the map volume using the Trapezoid method was 5380 ac-ft.
Clicking the Hydrocarbons button we can compute either oil or gas volumes.
For this map the computed map volume was 5380 ac-ft and the Original Oil in Place was 4,550,000 bbls. |
