Radial Plan Example

Feature of Plan Plus

Volumetrics offers users a way to evaluate drainage areas of reservoirs. The program can either compute the drainage areas corresponding to produced volumes or produced volumes from drainage areas of different shapes and sizes.  Using PLANPLUS 2002, the drainage areas computed by volumetrics for producing wells can be displayed. Sample well site locations for new wells can be selected and compared.

First an isopach map is digitized then the three producing locations are digitized and the volume produced entered. PLANPLUS 2002 displays the drainage shape based upon the calculated drainage radius and selected shape (circular, elliptical, square, and rectangular).

Using PLANPLUS 2002 is simple. First, the isopach map and contours of equal thickness defining the reservoir are digitized (traced). Then the well locations are digitized and reservoir parameters input such as porosity, fluid saturation, formation volume factor, and recovery factor. A number of drainage shapes are available: circles with constant radii, squares with constant length sides, and ellipses and rectangles with varying length to width ratios. The user then inputs the produced volume in barrels of oil or thousand cubic feet of gas and the program computes the size and location of the drainage radius. Conversely, the user can input the drainage shape and have the program compute the corresponding volume. All calculations take into account the varying thickness of the reservoir and defined reservoir boundaries including faults and pinchouts.

Numerous oil industry problems can be solved with PLANPLUS 2002. During the early stages of a newly discovered reservoir, PLANPLUS 2002 can be used to help determine well locations and develop the field, help estimate the ultimate recovery from different well locations, and help predict development costs. During the producing life of the field, PLANPLUS 2002 can be used to see what areas wells are draining, locate pockets of oil not being drained and easily generate "bubble maps" of field production for management and reserve reports.
